GSBWC...Coming Together with Communities to Make a Difference

GSBWC understands the importance of giving back; supporting our exisiting patients and educating new communities on obesity; obesity-related medical issues; solutions to resolving medical issues and  surgical weight loss options.

We actively participate, throughout the year, educating medical professionals on the medical issues associated with obesity (see our section on the website Undertanding Obesity for details) and how to work with their patients on the surgical options for morbid obesity.  Most patients have a primary doctor they see for everyday ailments (flu; aches and pains; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc) and for most of our patients they look to their primary doctor for counsel on their weight and options to safely lose weight and handle their medical conditions. Dr. Bilof and Dr. Yurcisin consistently hold sessions with non-bariatric physicians to educate them on the surgical options and address and of their concerns for referring their patient to a bariatric surgeon

In addition to the medical commuity we work with, we also go out into the communities we serve to bring the much needed information and support on health and nutrition.  We always welcome the chance to participate with community groups and organizations that are committed to continually updating their groups on issues impacting their community.  Some of the recent events we have had the privilege to lead and/or participate in include:

• New Jersey Transit Annual Employee Health Fair- Newark and Maplewood offices
• Annual Go Pink Event for Breast Cancer Awareness sponsored by Kimball Medical Center
• American College of Surgeons-NJ Chapter 60th Annual Clinical Symposium - Bariatrics
• Infertility and Obesity - seminars and (in early 2012 adding seminar topic as webinars) co-led with Dr. Serena Chen)
• YM-YWHA in Union - Free Informational Seminars to members
• GSBWC sponsored yoga classes designed for bariatric patients
• partner with personal trainer offer of two (2) free at-home training sessions for our patients
• 'Style Me Fabulous' events hosted by Red Carpet Boutique in Millburn NJ for patients
• Health Fairs throughout the year for both our South and North Jersey affiliates
• Dr. Bilof and Dr. Yurcisin interviewed by 8-time Emmy award winning journalist, Rich Noonan,  (airing on RNN TV) on how Bariatric Surgery and GSBWC is Changing Lives
• Free Informational Seminars on Surgical Weight Loss - North and Soruth Jersey offices

Our Annual Holiday Patient Party is FREE to all of our patients in good standing, and their guests. For the 2nd year (and our 5th Annual GSBWC Patient Event) it was held at the exquisite and 5-star venue; The Venetian in Garfield, NJ.  Our 2011 Holiday Party had over 640 people and we aired live the regional launch of the interview with Drs. Bilof and Yurcisin from World Business News with Rich Noonan.
